One of the treats my mom makes every Christmas is called Nueces Toffee. To me, it has the perfect texture...not too peanut brittle-ish and not too soft. It is also super easy to make. When I got home, Mama was getting ready to make some for the neighbors. I asked if I could make it and was given the go ahead.
This is another good one to involve the kids in...AFTER you have cooled it. They can help break the toffee into pieces. I think this is one of Mama's go-to recipes. If you're looking for something to take to a New Year's party...try this. I guarantee it will be enjoyed!
Nueces toffee1 cup chopped pecans (use less)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Butter 8X8 pan. Sprinkle with pecans.
Cook sugar and butter to 300 degrees
(hard crack). Pour over pecans,
sprinkle with chocolate chips
. Spread when melted.
Refrigerate until the chocolate hardens. Remove from pan.
Wash your hands and break toffee into small pieces.
Place on your cutest plate and enjoy with friends!

I love toffee. This looks like a bad recipe to show me because it looks easy to make....I will make it all the time! :)
I am still craving candy even though Christmas is over! This looks and sounds so good - I just might need to whip up a batch to celebrate the New Year!!
Ooo that toffee looks good, and so easy to make!
Toffee is one of my favorites. Your recipe looks scrumptious and easy! I know a recipe will hit the spot when I'm mentally searching the ingredients I have in my kitchen...
Oh this looks good!
And cute Santa plate too.
This is another of your recipes that I'm going to have to try!
Happy New Year, Claire!
Mmm, looks very yummy. I make a similar thing with crackers on the bottom.
Happy new year, Claire!
Peabody - It is an easy recipe...but you're right, it's also addictive.
Deborah - Great for New Years!
EMD - Thanks! It is easy.
Kelly - Ooo...I hope you like this one.
Jane - Happy New Years to you too! I hope you like this.
Linda - I've had that recipe as well (with graham crackers, too). It's really good.
YUMMY! I could not make this because I'd eat the whole pan!!!
Oh my goodness, I want to reach into the computer and taste this! I love this kind of stuff but it doesn't love me back! You know I don't think I've ever had a candy thermometer before, my mom did and we used it when I was growing up.
