Mama's Favorite

While she was here over Easter, I asked my mom what her favorite recipe was. She thought that was a hard question. I already know what Daddy's favorite is...lasagna...so easy. But Mama. I had NO idea. Apparently she didn't either! I don't think she ever came up with a favorite main dish. She ended up telling me that her favorite recipe is for her chocolate chip pound cake.
Whenever Mama is asked to take a dessert somewhere, this is what she takes. It's always well recieved and is pretty easy. This is the only chocolate cake (fully chocolate) that I'll eat. I'm just not a big chocolate dessert fan. But my favorite part of this cake is the bottom part that sticks to the plate! Cut someone else a piece and I'LL eat the "goody!" In honor of Mama, this is my entry for Food Fight this month. Stop by on Monday to see all the other entries.
Chocolate Chip Pound Cake
1 yellow cake mix
1 cup oil
8 oz. (~1 cup) sour cream
1/4 cup water
4 eggs
1 small box chocolate pudding
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In a mixer, mix all ingredients together until well combined. Be sure to stir to the bottom to be sure everything is well incorporated. Pour batter into prepared bundt pan. Bake for one hour or until knife comes out clean when inserted into the middle. Allow to cool. Remove from pan. Serve with ice cream and chocolate syrup (optional).

  1. This is one of my favorites too! I also have a slightly different one that takes a bit more time but it was well loved in the dorm also when I sent it back!

  2. Yum, that looks great. I think I may have made something similar years ago, with vanilla pudding, but the chocolate looks so much better.

  6. This looks really great, and even better that you have your mom's recipe. I just found you blog from Anne, and I wish you great luck in your quest to be a doctor. My daughter is in the last 8 months of a nurse anesthesia program, and it is really tough! Keep swimming... and smiling!

I went home to see my mom (88 yr) this weekend and took the ingredients and recipe for this cake. It turned out great. She loved it--so moist. She also loves and has made several times the "Rose's pie". Thanks for great recipes. Jancd

  10. Gail - I think my mom has another version as well, that is more like a German chocolate cake. I've never had it but she says it's good.

Paula - I made a white chocolate version this summer. I liked it pretty well, but this definitely has more flavor.

Alisha - She does have good taste!

Erika - Let me know if you try it. It's super easy and I bet Zander would enjoy helping you.

Peabody - I think mom's are harder to figure out than dad's...they're easier to please!

Deborah - Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am so excited about starting clinicals in June...less books is GOOD!

    Glenna - Thanks!

Jan - I am so glad that you are enjoying the recipes. Thanks for letting me know when you try them. i always wonder if people use any.

Kristen - I KNOW! I'm strange. I think I could EASILY turn down a chocolate pie...but put something fruity in front of me and that's a different story...a little harder to turn down.
